Elise's & Eva's Eczema |

Little Herbal has had many success stories. We would like to share with you the stories of Elise and her younger sister Eva. Their mother, Andrea, approached Little Herbal when all else had failed to help treat Elise's child eczema.
Andrea has very kindly written the following feature for our web site. She has also given us permission to include some "before and after" photos of Elise and Eva.
STOP PRESS! Eva's story was recently featured in a February 2008 edition of the Manchester Evening News. Click "African remedy beats eczema itch" to read the story online.

About EliseIn 2004 when my daughter Elise was born she had the smoothest, peachiest skin.
But by the time she was seven weeks old, I noticed dry patches on her body which wasn't entirely a surprise as her dad and big sister had both suffered from eczema.
In less than a month most of her body was covered in rough red patches. I tried a selection of emollient creams but they made very little difference. And as if Elise didn't have enough problems, her little head was now also covered in severe cradle cap. |
Elise looked a pitiful sight - she was such a gorgeous little girl but her face and arms were dry and red and her scalp was covered in a yellowy crust. It was even in her eyebrows. The itching drove her mad. I dressed her in simple white cotton and put little mitts on her hands to stop her scratching, but she would wake in the night screaming in discomfort. |
Then a horrid thing happened when she was 3 months old - Elise began to smell of fish and this was apparently due to the cradle cap becoming badly infected. I had to start putting an anti-fungal cream on her which did help.
I remembered that when my eldest daughter, Casey, had eczema when she was younger, I had successfully used a cream called THEMBA from the Little Herbal company. I decided to give it a try with Elise - what had I got to lose? |
I visited Lesley who owns Little Herbal and together we devised a plan of action.
In addition to applying THEMBA cream to the eczema and cradle cap, I would also give Elise 1/2 a capsule of acidophilus (from Lamberts) in her bottle at night. This was so as to rebalance her gut after I had used anti-biotics for a chest infection during the third trimester of pregnancy. I also rubbed a capsule of Lamberts evening primrose oil into her thighs in order for the essential fatty acids to help reduce inflammation. |
To my delight the whole package started to work and when I had everything under my control I would only need to use the THEMBA.
I stuck rigidly to this treatment and applied THEMBA to Elise's head and body regularly, at least twice a day.
Over the next few months her skin softened and became a healthy pink and her cradle cap cleared up too. |
In a period of around 5 months her eczema had cleared up but I still carried on appylying THEMBA regularly every day and night to make sure it didn't return.
Elise's eczema is totally under control and the only time it flares up is when she is ill or with the change of seasons. When this happens I start the process again, with a combination of acidophilus, evening primrose oil and my faithful friend THEMBA. |
I can say that THEMBA has been a life saver when no other creams would work or even worsened the condition.
Today, Elise has gorgeous clear skin and is a very happy little girl.

About EvaIn November 2006 I had another beautiful girl Eva Rose, she had a perfect complexion.
But at 7 weeks old I noticed Eva's left ear was red and dry and I knew it was eczema. |
| By the time Eva was 3 months old her cradle cap was widespread and at 5 months she had very severe eczema which was extremely inflamed. She had a large amount of eczema on her face which made it even worse as it made people stare. |

| We started uisng THEMBA at about 2 months as we had used on Elise along with the same combination or remedies (see text above).
Initially we had to use some hydrocortisone but this was very short term. |

| On a daily basis we applied THEMBA cream to Eva Rose and, from about 4 months, also OSHANA in between these applications so as to keep the skin moisturised. OSHANA contains the African potato, a very potent natural inflammatory, and this helped considerably since Eva's skin was inflamed, red and so sore.
In addition, each day we used diprobase ointment after OSHANA as well as prescribed anti-histamine tablets to help stop the skin itching at night. |

Evas skin at the moment is beautiful, soft, smooth and eczema free!
We feel truly lucky to have found THEMBA, OSHANA and the support of Lesley and her family as I feel that everything is a little easier to deal with. |
